Ten year old Ann Mary returns to a boarding school in her native land of Kerala to fulfil her NRI parents’ desire to learn their culture. The culture shock in her new environment accentuated by a field trip to a temple gives her nightmares. Eventually, a temple mural of the Malayalam folklore of The Madman of Naranam (a divine mystic) and Goddess Kali positing Advaitha Philosophy (Oneness of the Universal and individual Soul ) and her fertile imagination fed by grandma’s tales, becomes therapeutic as the madman becomes a mentor for her in coping with her fears while also opening a window to her culture.
