3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Feature Film "Aashiq-e-Vatan Maulana Azad" from India, Directed by Lavlin Thadani.

"Aashiq-e-Vatan Maulana Azad" is a docu-drama with anchoring, bytes of prominent public intellectuals, archival footage and enactment, thus combining the documentary format and the feature format. The film is on the life of the great Indian nationalist leader Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who played a major role in the struggle against British colonialism along with Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Maulana Azad was a practising Muslim and a scholar of Islamic theology, and his interpretation of Islam was in conformity with modern, liberal values, not coming in the way of identifying with and appreciating pluralistic societies. His was the strongest Muslim voice against the partition of India on religious lines (which led to the creation of Pakistan) and a stalwart of Indian literature and journalism and whose legacy includes the prowess of India in the field of technical education (he was the first Education Minister of India, who established the Indian Institutes of Technology, praised by the likes of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs).
