"Mumbai Spirit" is a film based on a young person from village who wishes to go to Mumbai city. Before starting he travel the people from village discouraged him by telling terrifying stories about the city. But he still came to Mumbai and was overwhelmed by lively positive spirit of people living here.
3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Professional Shorts "Tez" from India, Directed by BHASKAR UPADHYAYA AND PRABHAT GOSWAMI.
"Tez" is a short film based on a father who abandons his new born girl child in the want of a boy. The story is based on the backdrop of the 90’s era, when in certain societies a male child meant prosperity and an extra earning hand, and whereas the ‘weaker sex’ was looked down upon. The father associates the birth of a girl with unending responsibilities and liabilities. However, the world turns upside down when he has his moment of realization.

HE WAS INCAPABLE OF PROVIDING BETTER TREATMENT TO HIS SICK MOTHER AND ARRANGING MARRIAGE FOR HIS SISTER. ONE DAY, OUT OF FRUSTRATION AND SEVERE CRITICISM HE PLANNED TO KILL HIMSELF BUT AT THAT MOMENT A PHONE CALL CAME TELLING THAT HE WON 10 CRORE RUPEES IN LOTTERY. HE WAS SO EXCITED AT THE NEWS THAT HE SLIPPED HIS MOBILE PHONE FROM HIS HAND AND ACCIDENTALLY FELL FROM THE CHAIR AND HUNG HIMSELF.

'Aisha', a young ambitious business woman living in the city returns to her home village to attend her younger sister’s wedding. As she re-connects with her past, meeting family and friends, something unexpected happens that has disastrous consequences for her life. Everyone else would rather turn a blind eye, but Aisha decides to fight a tough battle for justice.

One of Germany's longest bridges spans the Kiel Canal near 'Brunsbuttel' at a height of 40 metres. As one approaches the structure, the more impressive its visual and acoustic appearance becomes. For the workmen and engineers of the technical service crew, the bridge is an object to be examined. For this movie, the bridge becomes actor, resonating body and metaphor.

A journey from Africa to Berlin turns into an unexpected journey from childhood to adulthood.The film centers around 'Arlette', a 15-year old girl from the Central African Republic who suffered severe injuries during the last war. In Berlin a surgery frees her from her year-long pain. This changes her both physically and mentally: suddenly Arlette is in her puberty. But then war breaks out again in her homeland. What was planned to be a short stay in Berlin turns into a journey without a foreseeable end. Arlette is forced to grow up and take her own decisions about her future. Stranded in Berlin the young girl faces the challenges of a foreign culture and a language she doesn't speak.This film is a long-term observation – told resolutely from the perspective of a young girl from the Central African Republic. And the viewer gets to see our everyday life through the genuine and honest eyes of Arlette.

"About art, My Family and Me" is the film wherein the director has tried to answer the questions he has as a young adult. What does art mean to him? How is art connected to his family? And who is his role in between? Using only home videos from his family, adding his improvised comment to it, a light essayistic film was born.

"Disabled Foreigners" is the story abouy Emre and Laura have a project. Actually, they only know each other from the bus stop. Emre is a young Turkish origin wheelchairs. Exactly what Laura has wanted. She wants to write her master's thesis in sociology about him. Emre however wants to take the pretty student especially again. So he agrees. From now on, the two meet regularly.

"DJADO IVAN" is the story of the 70 year old "Djado Ivan", who lives in Grivitsa, a small bulgarian town close to the romanian border. In close communion with nature and his many animals, he spends his life on his small farm and thereby maintains his very own rhythm of life. In order to portray his life, Silke Meya (Director) and Laura Mentgen (Director of Photography) spent one month with Ivan in Bulgaria where they were able to capture his philosophy of life.

3rd Navi Mumbai International Film Festival NMIFF-2016 welcomes the submission of Professional Shorts "Kujo - The Vessel" from India, Directed by Sourav De.
"Kujo - The Vessel" is a film based on some true events. It is not a movie in typical sense, as there is no straight narrative. It is neither a typical tale of a tortured woman. It is a tale much of which remains untold. The protagonist is a sex-slave. It throws light on some dark sides of human lives. It is a study of darker sides of characters of a boss, a caretaker, a customer and a victim. They are individuals representing universal greed, lust, sadism, voyeurism and despondence.

"You Never Know" is a romantic story about Anna and Zach. Anna's routine is disrupted when she misses her train to go home. She chooses to wait for the next train, reading a book with her headphones plugged in, when Zach approaches her. He starts off the conversation by lying to her about having read the book she is reading, which she finds cocky and charming at the same time. Once they get talking, they bond over their interests and bicker about their differences, which are quite a lot. As the conversation progresses, Anna finds herself enjoying Zach's company which surprises her. Before either of them realizes, its time for the next train to arrive. Anna initiates an awkward handshake, when Zach invites her to his performance that night. Anna is taken aback by that question and enters the train anyway. In the split second moment before the doors close, Anna decides to think with her heart for once and leaves the station with Zach.

"The Urban World" follows the experiences of one family living in a mixed Hindu/Muslim slum as they and over 10,000 other families are evicted from their homes on the banks of India’s Sabarmati River to make way for a massive development project. The film is both a portrait of a family at a moment of crisis, an ethnography of a culture moved from a horizontal communal society to mid-rise facilities, and a case-study that raises multiple questions regarding public policy and social justice in solving the plight of the world’s urban poor.

"Aashiq-e-Vatan Maulana Azad" is a docu-drama with anchoring, bytes of prominent public intellectuals, archival footage and enactment, thus combining the documentary format and the feature format. The film is on the life of the great Indian nationalist leader Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who played a major role in the struggle against British colonialism along with Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Maulana Azad was a practising Muslim and a scholar of Islamic theology, and his interpretation of Islam was in conformity with modern, liberal values, not coming in the way of identifying with and appreciating pluralistic societies.His was the strongest Muslim voice against the partition of India on religious lines (which led to the creation of Pakistan) and a stalwart of Indian literature and journalism and whose legacy includes the prowess of India in the field of technical education (he was the first Education Minister of India, who established the Indian Institutes of Technology, praised by the likes of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs).

"Cholai" is a black comedy based on the 2011 hooch fatalities in Bengal, India. Country liquor, commonly known as ‘Cholai’ is a flourishing business in rural Bengal It is cheap and highly addictive. A sudden turn of events is triggered when a batch of Cholai gets toxic during the brewing process. Soon people who had consumed the Cholai start falling ill and the death toll rises to 172. Media turns the incident into a political drama. To pacify the outrage, the Government launches compensation for the family members of the victims. A gold-rush ensues following the announcement, everyone wants their share. Deaths due to other causes could be become ‘entitled’ for compensation if the right palms are greased with their share. The mourning soon transforms into greed and corruption.

"Disorder" is a thrilling score which boldly punctuates and immerses into the revering, absurdist tale of a newly married couple. Phobic husband struggles to find answers to bizarre events whereas loving wife is agonized about those events. This newly married young couple’s mental turmoil leaves them no option but to surrender.

"The Wall" takes you to the Dystopian time era, where a group of young people are arrested for taking part in the riots in order to change the suppressive laws. Razvan Gris, the leader of the revolutioners is nowhere to be found. Amongst the prisoners we find Vadim Seriven, one of Razvan Gris’ friends and supporters. In a turn of events the prisoners are all sentenced to death. We witness their last night, their understanding of the situation, their confessions and the moment of acceptance.

"Coffee at Laundromat" highlights Immigration & LGBTQ issues among different ethnic groups in Canada. The story revolves around a local Laundromat, where citizens of diverse ethnicities and backgrounds are doing their laundry. As the story unfolds, the audience is introduced to these characters personal struggles. Many even shown as "outcasts" in their own country.

A bachelorette’s night out with the „guys“. A weekend. The five of them. On a raft. There is Ken, her 'new' best friend, her little brother Tobi and, alas, Momo, the future sperm donor; this is bound to end badly.

"L'CHAIM!-TO LIFE!" is a story about Chaim Lubelski who was a Jewish scholar, and a part of the jet set of St. Tropez and a successful businessman in New York. At 63, he moved to Antwerp to live with his mother – a concentration camp survivor – taking care of her, day and night, with true love and joy. In his feature documentary debut L’CHAIM!, director and producer Elkan Spiller introduces us to his eccentric and charismatic cousin, whose non - conformist life, as a second generation survivor, is deeply affected by the Holocaust and its traumatic aftermath. A life full of absurdities and tenderness, which, like Spiller’s film, breaks with every cliche.
