For people of Kolkata, India, the tradition of consuming sweets is part of just part of their deep-rooted culture. It is estimated that today 20 percent of the city's adult population lives with type 2 diabetes. "Sweet Malady" sheds light on the global phenomenon of medical non-compliance. Simply put, the film tries to help audiences reflect on the role of modern medicine in promoting wellness beyond disease
